Chinese Box Turtle Information
Chinese Box Turtle Hatchlings for sale are about 1 1/2 inches long. These animals are native to southern China, Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands. Field characteristics: This Asian box turtle has a highly domed, somewhat elongate carapace and a strongly hinged plastron.
Cistoclemmys flavomarginata has been given a variety of common names including Chinese box turtle, yellow-margined box turtle, golden-headed turtle and snake-eating turtle. Its generic status has been fluid. In his original 1863 description, John Edward Gray assigned the species to Cistoclemmys. Later workers moved it to Cyclemys in the early 20th century, and then on into the genus Cuora in the 1930’s.
